Our opinion on the Portitxol Beach
To find the beach of Portitxol of l'Escala, follow the direction of the archeologic museum of Catalonia-Empuries. Along the sea promenade lined with umbrella pines, the beach is a gem in a beautiful setting. On the right, hand wooden staircase leads to a nice gazebo above the bay of Roses, the coast of Empuries and the Escala. Going up, we can see the arc of Portitxol, a rather notorious rock formation. This beach of fine sand is planted of straw umbrellas that accentuates its little heavenly side. The nearest parking lot, near the hotel, is paid in summer. A good alternative is to go there by walking, taking the promenade of Empuries. By the bike path, we can reach among the pines the other beach that line this bay of Empuries.

Wide on its left side, the beach narrows to the right.
Big creek on the edge of the bay of Roses (that can be seen in the background), very often densely populated.
The sea promenade is high and creates a little shade in the afternoon.
The bikes are many for the simple reason that the walk is also a bike path and that many come here through this.
The famous spa hotel of Empuries where several films were shot.
Some portions of the beach form like tiny internal creeks.
Children are not forgotten.
On the horizon we can see the city of the Escala.
On the other side there is the tip of the natural park of Creus.
The bike path sinks on both sides under the pines.
The archeological site of Empuries preserves very beautiful vestiges of the Greek and Roman occupations.
