We notice right away a beach of depth rarely equaled : 200 meters ! If it elongates the trips between shops and shore, it leaves a sizeable margin in terms of hosting summer tourists. At the exact limit of Escala and Torroella of Montgri and, therefore, between the Alt and the Baix Emporda, the beach of Cala Montgo is well protected by north winds and so from tramontane. Because of ots round form, it is hypothesised that this could be an old chasm that would be progressively expanded under the action of the sea. Cala Montgo welcomes many tourist establishments (including a giant campsite) and many shops near the sea promenade. The resort is proud of its Blue Flag, of its clear waters and of its actions for constant cleanliness. The beach is also close by the natural park of Montgri. We can browse the coastal path to Punta Ventosa or climb on the tower of Punta Montgo who used to prevent pirate attacks. The sand is very fine, it is pleasant at ordinary times but can be an inconvinient with strong east wind, because the sand transforms itself into generous volatile dusts for the eyes. Which is rare, fortunately. We will leave the beach with the souvenir of an harmonious place, where urbanization is in osmosis with nature, where water activities or diving do not disrupt the landscape.
