The coast of the county of Girona is located northeast of Catalonia. This county corresponds exactly to the Costa Brava (untamed coast), which stretches to the French beaches (north, we have the Pyrenees Orientales beaches). With about 160 km of coastline, the Costa Brava has many different faces.
North, around Cap de Creux and to the French border, the coast is steep and with winding roads. The village of Cadaqués is the major point of interest with its completely preserved centre. Near the south, the Gulf of Roses is the start of the large resorts as you can find in the south of France.
From Begur to Tossa de Mar, the coast becomes more preserved and you can find pretty small authentic resorts (with the exception of Platja d'Aro). Some beautiful secluded coves with central beaches in fishing villages, this is where we have the most beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava and therefore the county of Girona. However, accommodations are rare and so more expensive than in the rest of the Costa Brava.
Further south, towards the beaches of the county of Barcelona with vast expanses of sand and important resorts.
The Empuriabrava seaside resort is situed on the Costa Brava 45 minutes from the French border. It is one of the biggest marina in the world with almost 30 kilometers of canals.
