The popular resort of Lloret de Mar is located on the Costa Brava in Catalonia,70 km north of Barcelona and 80 km south of Figueres. This is one of the most important seaside resorts of the Costa Brava (there are nearly 120 tourist establishments like hotels and holiday homes representing 46% of the total market of the Costa Brava).
Lloret de Mar is known as a lively destination with many bars and nightclubs. The season begins in April with a week reserved for students: the week of spring break (students meet up for a week's holiday to have a break ... you can just imagine the atmosphere ...).
There are numerous beaches in Lloret de Mar. The central one, that of Lloret, is located in the city centre. Over a kilometre long, it is bordered by a pleasant walk with many bathing establishments. That of Santa Christina offers a less urban environment with many sports facilities with lots of hotels nearby.
Near Lloret de Mar, the beaches of Blanes are also interesting with several campsites near the sea (very crowded in the summer). If you want to quit the mass tourism of the seaside, you will have to head north to the beaches and coves of Begur where it more difficult for the promoters to build (rugged terrain).
