Located in the south of the Costa Brava, Tossa de Mar is one of the most picturesque resorts of Catalonia with its old town surrounded by ramparts (seafront) and white houses. The coast in this area is hilly and very green. You can easily discover this by using the GR92 along the Catalan coast.
There are several beaches in Tossa de Mar. That of Gran is the most central and offers a very pleasant urban beach with a view of the citadel. The beach is well appointed but the public space is relatively small (about half of the beach; the rest is occupied by private beaches or by rental companies for water activities). That of Mar Menuda is untamed (but near the city centre) and offers a unique setting. But as often on the Costa Brava, it has been commercialised by paying activities and rental companies ...
Nearby Tossa de Mar, the seaside resort of Sant Feliu de Guixols has remained in its "juice". Its old town is very pleasant with its Benedictine monastery. To get there, take the coastal road with is truly remarkable points of view. Further south, the beaches of Lloret de Mar are worth a visit (very lively destination, ideal for younger generation).
