The town of San José is located north of Almaria in the south of Spain in Andalusia. Principal destination to discover the beautiful natural park of Cabo de Gata, San José houses the main hotels (they are usually family) and restaurants of the natural park. The resort is animated from April to November (in low season there are about 1500 inhabitants). To our sense, it is the best base for discovering this part of Andalusia.
The beaches of San José are among the most beautiful of the protected park of Cabo de Gata among those of Los Genoveses and of Monsul, the two accessible by a well arraged track (beware in season access are closed when parkings are full, paid shuttle bus from the center of San José are available). Swimming is without real risk in the area the se ais rarely agitated.
There are numerous points of interets in the surroundings of San José. Two steps away, the town of Las Negras has a very specific atmsophere with its hippie community. The small town of La Isleta del Moro has also conserved a lot of charme. South, the lighthouse of Cabo de Gata offers a beautiful view on the rugged coast.
