Our opinion on the Los Genoveses Beach
Located in a totally uninhabited area between the lighthouse of Cabo de Gata and the town of San José (south of the natural park of Cabo de Gata Nijar), Los Genoveses beach (Playa de Los Genoveses) is among the most beautiful beaches of Andalusia. Crescent formed, it stretches on almost 900 meters in a sublime fine sand environment with a volcanic landscape background.
East oriented, it is not recommended on windy days, currents may appear. It then becomes a pleasant spot to practice windsurfing.
No services on the beach, do not forget to bring a lot of water with you.
South side of the beach (right side), it is not uncommon to find some naturists.
The beach is accessible by San-Jose. Signs indicate its access. A one kilometer path allows to join the beach parking (limited places, paying in summer 5 €). As soon as the latter is full (from 10am in summer), the access is closed. We can then take shuttle buses from San-José (1.5 €) or come by bike (free access).

Crescent formed beach between the mountains of the park of Cabo de Gata Nijar.
On the left, nice view on an old volcano. Behind, there is the town of San Jose. It is in this north part that we find an area with pine trees and eucalyptus.
Extremely well protected area with dunes on the side. The beach is huge, the attendance is high in summer but the parking limits the possible affluence.
Nice width with a rather hard sand in the upper part.
The environment is sublime. It is one of the most beautiful beach of Andalusia !
On the right, nice view on the Morron of the Genoveses (observe the whitish color of this spur rock – it is composed of neogen volcanic rock aged 15 million years). It is in the area the earest to this rock that we find some naturists.
Swimming is considered safe in calm weather but maybe dangerous in the east wind.
Exceptional environment ! We are in a natural park, here no constructions !
Very simple access from the parking by a well laid out path (200 meters).
