Monsul beach (Playa de Monsul) is the most famous beach of the natural park of Cabo de Gata-Nijar. It served for the filming location of Indiana Jones and of The Last Crusade (we see in particular its big rocks on the left side).
Wild beach with no equipment, it is very popular for its sublime environment of volcanic origin with its fine sand. More little than its neighboor « Los Genoveses », it is quickly full in summer … On the left side, a gigantic dune offers a sublime panorama on the surroundings … and to the lighthouse of Cabo de Gata. Behind some little sandy coves (more difficult to access but less frequented) cen serve as a backup base for those seeking a little tranquility.
We only regret the clay side at the level of access (not really pleasant). The sand at the level of the sea (and in a band of 30m) is fine and very pleasant.
Like for the nearby beaches, the access is made from a path (4 km long) from San Jose (very well indicated) in very good condition. The parking is 400 meters from the beach (fee, 5€ per vehicle). In summer, as soon as the parking is full, the access is closed (in August from 10am …). We can then access to this beach by bus (1.5 €, every 30 minutes), by bike or by walking.
