Like many of the most beautiful coves of the Costa Brava (particularly towards Palafrugell), Tamariu is a former fishing village that has retained its charm and benefits from a deep cove, facing the southeast.
The name of the beach of Tamariu comes from tamarisk which can still be seen on both sides of the river (Riera) and on the maritime boulevard. Its origin is very old, since its existence was already mentioned in the thirteenth century. Small but with lavish services of all kinds. In addition to showers, bars, restaurants, sailing club, kayak rentals, etc., the seabed of this cove also has 2 underwater chimneys and is therefore ideal for diving.
There are two lovely coves on each side. To the right is the Cala Aigua Dolça (the freshwater cove), only 25 meters in length and accessible by the coastal path. In this cove, there is the water source of the same name.
Tamariu is an excellent starting point (or a nice stop) for hiking cove to cove, particularly to the east and north. And is also very good for kayaking.
