It should say "the" beaches of Port Bo Calella of Palafrugell” as the main beach has two coves: that of En Calau and that of Malaespina. All three form a continuous face in the centre of Calella de Palafrugell and its typical arches of maritime Catalonia. Every first Saturday of July, the famous Habaneras recital of Calella is held, a traditional festival in which the beach is covered with terraces on which the spectators listen to habaneras sea shanties of Calella, recalling distant memories of Catalans who left to dip their lines and make a fortune in Cuba. Rocky reefs, sand and sea create different moods on this beach. Beach boats remind that the village primarily owes its existence to the sea and fishing. They take up space but are so much part of the local heritage. In the summer, the overcrowding is the threat. The beautiful sea beds are clear and full of fish. You can also rent pedal boats and kayaks. To walk there is easy. By car, it is a different story as parking is extremely difficult. A tip: come early.
