Strangely enough, the village of Sant Marti of Empuries is absent from most tourist guides. It is situated a few kilometers from Escala. Medevial style and beautifuly restored, itw as for a long time the capital of the county of Empuries (now it is the Castello of Empuries). Surrounded by ramparts, this old fortifided citadel is organized around the church of Saint-Martin (1507) and its small square where we find several restaurants. The different narrow lanes begin from this square with a lot of stone houses (these are mainly second homes). We take one hour to go around the village (paid parking).
We find two beaches in Sant Marti of Empuries bellow the village. Both are very well equipped and are very beautiful. They are bordered with a very well appointed pedestrian promenade to Escalat going through the ruins of Empuries.
Sant Marti of Empuries is one of the beautiful villages on the seaside of the Costa Brava. Housing here is very difficult, the available offer is very low and high-end. L'Escalat is better equipped in hotels and summer residences. North side, the coast of Sant Père Pescador is one of the best preserved of the Costa Brava with long beach of 6 kilometers (several access).
