Alicante (Alacant in Valencian) is a seaside resort south of Spain at about 6h30 from the french border and two hours south from Valencia. It is one of the most biggest city of the province of Valencia (11th city of Spain) and one of the most important seaside destination of the Mediterranean coast (the climate is very favorable with an avarage annual temperature of 18°C, the winter temperatures regularly exceed the 20°C). The historic district is remarkable with numerous tapas bars, numerous discotheques and a very important night animation. On higher ground, the Castillo of Santa Barbara (castle of the 16th century) offers a nice panoramic view on the city (accessible by an elevator).
There are several beaches in Alicante. The most central is the beach of Postiguet. It is at two steps from the port (animated zone at night). It is a nice sandy beach with all the services of a big beach. Its attendance is very important. More to the north, the beach of San Juan is a calmer district but apart of the city. It is accessible by the tram and its size allows us to find a place easily even during summer.
From the port of Alicante, we can go to the island of Tabarca (45 minutes crossing, plan a day to enjoy the island). More to the south, we enjoy the seaside resort of Torrevieja. North, the seaside resort of Benidorm is one of the most popular with youth.
