Located forty kilometres south of Barcelona, Sitges is the trendy destination of the Costa Brava and is often compared to St. Tropez by the Barcelona youth. The waterfront is well laid out with beautiful mansions of the Indianos era. The style of the Sitges seafront is at odds with the rest of the Costa Brava. The city has kept its style with small old buildings, no building has disfigured the seafront. The old town (waterfront) is very nice with many points of interest.
There are numerous beaches in Sitges. The main ones are to the west of the old town (the church is a good landmark as it is high up). Many sandy coves stretch for over 2 km bordered by a pleasant pedestrian promenade. Most beaches are well equipped with beach equipment for hire, restaurants, lifeguard stations, ... the pedestrian promenade with palm trees and lawns is very nice. To the east of the old town, the beaches are smaller and more discrete.
Price wise, Sitges is renowned for being expensive. There are many restaurants (open even out of season) and many hotels. Prices are equivalent to France.
Sitges is a gay-friendly destination. Many events are organised.
