Capital of Lanzarote from 1852 (before it was Teguise), Arrecife is the most important city of Lanzarote. Busy city all year long (tourism is very low), it has not got the charm that the other city of Lanzarote have. Buildings with no charm on the seafront, some aberrant constructions, decrepit buidings, Arrecife is often a city of passage. We mainly come to visit the fondation of César Manrique (he has worked to ptotect the island) which occupies his last home (4 km outside Arrecife).
Several beaches at Arrecife. The main one is Playa del Reducto, urban beach with many equipments and alas its Gran Hotel sitting on the pier. We also find some small creeks on the side of Castillo San Gabriel.
The seaside center of Arrecife is located outside of the city. It has been built in the 70th and is nicknamed Costa Teguise. Place without charm, it is only dedicated to welcoming tourists. More south, Puerto del Carmen is one of the most important seaside resort of Lanzarote.
